QR Code Generator

Type a link or some text, or fill in your Wi-Fi, a contact or an email, and download the QR code as PNG or SVG. It is created in your browser and never expires.

Error correction, size and color

Type what you want to share and the QR code will appear.

It is generated in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere. The QR code is static: it never expires and does not depend on us.

Results are estimates. Solvemis accepts no responsibility for the results obtained or for how they are used.

How it works

How to use it

  1. Choose what to share: a link or text, your Wi-Fi, a contact or an email.
  2. Fill in the details. The QR code appears instantly.
  3. If you like, open “Error correction, size and color” to change them.
  4. Download it as PNG for the web or your phone, or as SVG to print at any size.
  5. Before printing, test it with your phone's camera.

How it is calculated

The code is generated following the ISO/IEC 18004 standard: the content is encoded as UTF-8, the smallest version that fits is chosen, Reed-Solomon error correction is added and the mask that makes it easiest to read is applied. Wi-Fi uses the WIFI: format read by Android and iOS cameras; contacts use vCard 3.0; email uses a mailto: link.

About this calculator

Static, and yours for good

Many QR code websites create dynamic QR codes: the code doesn’t contain your link but one of theirs that redirects to yours. When the free trial ends or you stop paying, the code stops working, even if it is already printed.

Here the QR code is static: your link or text is stored inside the code and the phone reads it directly. It never expires, has no scan limit and keeps working even if this website disappears. And since it is generated in your browser, no one sees what you type.

What you can share

  • Link or text: a website, your menu, a form or any text.
  • Wi-Fi: guests point their camera and join without typing the password.
  • Contact: name, phone, email, company and website, ready to save.
  • Email: a new email with the recipient, subject and message filled in.

Error correction

Level Can be lost Use it for
Low 7% Screens and very long content
Medium 15% Almost everything
High 25% Outdoors, surfaces that get scratched
Highest 30% Tough environments

Code sizes

The standard has 40 sizes, called versions, from 21 × 21 to 177 × 177 modules. By default the smallest one that fits is used; a bigger one leaves room for more error correction, which the tool raises as far as it fits.

Printing tips

  • Contrast: a dark code on a light background.
  • Margin: keep the white border that comes with the code.
  • Size: at least one tenth of the scanning distance, and never below 2 cm.
  • Test it with a couple of phones before printing many copies.
  • The “solvemis.com” caption: with “Add “solvemis.com” below the code” checked, the image carries that text underneath, outside the code. Phones don’t read it: the code still leads to what you typed. Uncheck the box if you don’t want it.

Be careful with other people’s codes

A QR code can lead anywhere. Before opening a link from an unknown code, check the address your phone shows, especially if it asks for payment or your details.

Frequently asked questions

Does the QR code expire?

No. It is a static QR code: the content is stored in the code itself and the camera reads it without going through any server. It will keep working as long as it can be seen, even if this website disappears. The codes that expire are “dynamic” ones, which point to the generator company's server and stop working when you stop paying.

Which error correction level should I pick?

Medium (15%) works for almost everything. Go up to high or highest if the code will be outdoors, on a surface that can get scratched or on a shiny material. If a higher level fits without making the code bigger, the tool uses it automatically.

How big should I print it?

A rule of thumb: the side of the code should be at least one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from. At 30 cm, 3 cm; on a poster 3 metres away, 30 cm. Below 2 cm many phones struggle. For print, use the SVG: it stays sharp at any size.

Do you store what I type?

No. The code is generated in your browser by a program that comes with the page: what you type, including your Wi-Fi password, is never sent anywhere.
